Why do clothing brands manufacture in Ludhiana, Punjab?

Because Ludhiana is the centre of India's knitwear industry. The city produces over 60% of India's knitwear exports and is known as the Manchester of India, and that concentration gives a brand manufacturing there two measurable advantages: material cost and delivery speed.

Cost
Proximity to fabric mills reduces material costs by 20-30% compared with manufacturers in other cities. Fabric is the largest input in a garment, so that saving lands on the unit price instead of being absorbed further down the chain.

Speed
The same proximity takes 7-14 days off delivery lead times. When the mill is a short drive from the cutting floor, re-orders and shade corrections do not wait on long-haul freight.

Capability
The cluster is deep enough that the whole process runs locally: design and tech pack, sourcing from Ludhiana and Amritsar mills, sampling, production, inline and final inspection, then packaging and dispatch. Nothing important has to leave the city to be finished.

What we make there
Programmes cover t-shirts, hoodies and sweatshirts, denim and pants, alongside school uniforms and corporate workwear for institutional buyers. We export to the Middle East, Europe and North America as well as serving domestic Indian brands.

Celebstitch is based at Property No. 73, Industrial Area A, Ludhiana, Punjab 141003. Send a brief and we will quote against it.

How is custom clothing manufacturing costed?

How is custom clothing manufacturing costed?

A garment price is built from variables rather than pulled off a table, so we quote against your specification instead of publishing a list. Four things move the number most: the fabric, the construction, the quantity, and the labelling and packaging you ask for.

Fabric
This is usually the largest single component and it varies more than buyers expect. Cotton, denim, silk, wool, linen and synthetic blends do not price the same, and within cotton the difference between Giza, Supima and combed is real. Weight matters as much as fibre - a 240 GSM t-shirt uses materially more cloth than a lighter one at the same size.

Construction
The number of operations, the trims and the finishing. A straightforward cut-and-sew tee with a printed label costs differently to a multi-panel jacket.

Quantity
Our MOQ is 100-500 pieces depending on product type. Below that, development work - tech pack, sourcing, sampling - dominates the per-unit figure. Above it, the per-unit cost falls as that fixed work spreads across the run.

Labelling and packaging
Custom poly bags, labels and cartons are specified per programme and costed in.

Where it is made
Ludhiana is India's textile capital with direct mill access. Proximity to fabric mills reduces material costs by 20-30% and delivery lead times by 7-14 days against manufacturers in other cities - a structural advantage rather than a discount.

Send a tech pack or reference images with quantities and fabric, and we will quote against the actual specification.

What GSM is best for a t-shirt or hoodie?

What GSM is best for a t-shirt or hoodie?

For t-shirts the working range is 100-240 GSM, and for hoodies and sweatshirts it is 280-380 GSM. The lower end reads as lightweight and warm-weather; the upper end gives a denser, more opaque body that holds its shape. On hoodies, 280 GSM sits at the lighter end of the band and 380 GSM is a heavy, structured hand.

What the number measures
GSM is grams per square metre - fabric density, not softness and not a quality score on its own. Two fabrics at the same GSM can feel completely different depending on the fibre and the construction.

For t-shirts
Cotton, polyester and blends all sit inside the 100-240 GSM band we work with. Combed cotton at the heavier end produces a denser tee that survives repeated washing without going sheer; lighter weights suit layering and hot-climate retail.

For hoodies and sweatshirts
280-380 GSM covers fleece and french terry. Fleece is brushed on the inside for warmth. French terry keeps its loops on the inside and drapes more cleanly, which is why it turns up so often in premium mid-layers.

How to choose
Match the weight to what the garment has to do, not to its price point. Tell us the climate, the sales channel and the hand-feel you are aiming at, and we will specify the fabric from there.
